South City Earns Third Place At Holiday Classic

One night after coming up just short of completing a great comeback against host San Mateo, South City had no problem having a good bounce back performance to beat El Camino and finish with the third place trophy. "As defending tournament champs we knew we had to come out here and finish strong after knowing we were not going to be able to repeat, but it was easier to get up for this game knowing we had to face our rivals." said tri captain Curtis Jackson. Jackson who probably had his best game of the year really contributed to a well rounded attack. "We knew we had to step our game up and really bare down to get this one, in the end we made enough plays to outlast their comeback and we sealed a good preseason with a good win." added John Ilaban who led South City in scoring throughout the tournament. Also adding to this great effort was the surpise scoring punch from normally defensive minded Eddie Sanchez. "He is our defensive guy but as he showed he can score if given the chance and it was big for us tonight. That was a very welcomed sight." said coach Spencer Ray. Also contributing to the victory were Shadi Azar, Gary Wu and Raymond Gaela who provided a shutdown effort on El camino's leading scorer throughtout the fourth quarter. Now it is time to start league and what a way to start it off against Terra Nova who along with South City and Jefferson are considered to be favorites to contend for this year's league title. The defending champion Warriors will have a chance to take an early jump on league if they can beat Terra Nova. We will see you at the game on January 8th at 3:15 for a boys double-header opener at Terra Nova.
